International Youth Exchange
Mark June 25-July 1, 2017, on your calendars: the first-ever IMPACT & SKYE international youth exchange is coming!
This summer, IMPACT and SKYE club members and leaders from Romania, Albania, Moldova, and Armenia will gather for a week of fun and learning at the Straja mountain resort in Lupeni, Hunedoara, Romania. The theme of the youth exchange is Crossing Borders to Build Cross-Cultural Competencies, and the event will be focused on giving youth and youth leaders a chance to broaden their horizons, learn about other cultures, identify and dismantle their own stereotypes, and practice inclusive cross-cultural communication.
Participants will spend time at the VIATA ropes course, learning about the character strengths needed to combat social exclusion and discrimination. They will participate in workshops to learn new non-formal methods for opening conversations about diversity in their own communities. They will explore the beauty of the Romanian mountains and develop new friendships with a diverse group of participants from other backgrounds. And after the week is over, they will take this experience home with them and teach other members of their IMPACT & SKYE clubs about what they’ve learned, so that they can apply it through service-learning projects in their local communities!
Applications are now being accepted for participants from each country by the following local IMPACT & SKYE organizations. These include New Horizons Foundation (Romania), World Vision (Albania and Armenia), LA VIA Association (Moldova), and FACLIA Association (Moldova). The youth exchange is being funded through the Erasmus+ Programme of the Romanian National Agency (Agenția Națională pentru Programe Comunitare în Domeniul Educației și Formării Profesionale [ANPCDEFP]), project number 2016-2-RO01-KA105-024896.
